I have four English 10 classes this year: two advanced and two regular level, and a few weeks ago, I divided them up into teams. Two of the English 10 SOLs are related to cooperative learning, so working in groups isn’t optional for these students!
We’ll be changing groups at least once or twice throughout the year, so that everyone will have an opportunity to work with different kinds of people. The teams will work together on a variety of activities, some more structured than others, and each student will participate in a variety of ways.
One of the teams’ first activities is a get-to-know-each-other one. They find out what they have in common, choose a name and mascot, and design a team flag. (I’ll try to post the sheet from school this week.) Then, I take their pictures in whatever way they want. So here they are:
