“My sweetie!”
— Atticus Sage Hawke, age two
Awakened by the banging of his bed this morning, I stumbled out of bed and yelled upstairs from the bottom of the den stairs: “Atticus! Sit down and stop jumping on that bed!”
He started crying, and I sighed. Not the best way to start a Sunday morning.
I got dressed, started the coffee brewing, made some brown-sugar oatmeal, and proceeded upstairs to Attie’s room, sure that it had been time enough to teach the lesson.
He heard my footsteps on the floor and squealed, “Mommy!”
“Good morning,” I said with a smile. “Thanks for staying on your bed quietly.”
When I picked him up out of the crib, he put his hands on either side of my face and grinned, “My sweetie!”
Inspiration, indeed. :)
