An Affirmation Against Inequality

New York #23

I don’t want to be treated better than anyone else, but I will not tolerate or accept being treated worse than anyone else.

We have the right to be treated fairly and equally on the job, in the marketplace, on the street, in the classroom.

If we fight unfairness and inequality, we are not doing so to make trouble or defy authority. We are doing so in the name of truth and justice.

If no one ever fought against unfair and unequal treatment, more than half of our country’s population would still be sitting in the back of the bus, drinking from separate water fountains, using separate restrooms. More than half our our country’s population would still lack the power to vote.

To allow injustice is to condone injustice.

We have to stand up for what is right. Is that not our birthright?

Is that not the American way?
